Hugo Baungartner has stepped into a pivotal role at Esportes Gaming Brasil, joining the operator as chief business officer and executive director of institutional relations and strategic partnerships. His appointment comes at a critical moment for Brazil’s newly regulated betting market—and Esportes da Sorte aims to be at the forefront of this transition.

Steering Compliance and Strategic Growth

Baungartner’s focus is clear: strengthening regulatory relationships, ensuring compliance, and building strategic partnerships. His responsibilities will include representing Esportes Gaming Brasil before key entities such as:

  • The Secretariat of Prizes and Bets
  • The Federal Revenue Service
  • The Central Bank of Brazil

“My focus is on managing relationships with institutional stakeholders and regulators, leading compliance initiatives, and structuring strategic partnerships and projects,” Baungartner said in an interview with iGB.

Esportes da Sorte secured one of the first licenses under Brazil’s new regulatory regime in January 2024. By March, H2 Gambling Capital had ranked the operator among the top 10 for market share in Brazil.

From Aposta Ganha to a New Chapter

Baungartner previously served as chief commercial officer at Aposta Ganha, where he helped the brand secure its full licence and rise alongside global players like Bet365 and Betano. He brings nearly 30 years of experience in the gaming industry, particularly in strategic expansion and institutional alignment.

“Brazil’s current market environment demands prepared and responsible players,” he said. “Esportes Gaming Brasil is one of the leading names shaping this new landscape.”

Regional Expansion: South, Southeast, and Northeast in Focus

A major component of Baungartner’s new role will be developing regional brand penetration strategies. The target areas?

  • South and Southeast Brazil for their economic strength
  • Northeast Brazil, where Esportes da Sorte already has strong engagement

Baungartner emphasized building alliances with fintech firms, certified providers, data companies, and laboratories to scale efficiently in Brazil’s competitive environment.

Trusted Collaboration with Regulators

Beyond commercial growth, Baungartner places great importance on fostering trust-based institutional relations.

“Our goal is not just to comply with the law but to actively contribute to building an efficient, safe, and responsible market,” he said.

His belief is that success in Brazil’s evolving regulatory landscape will hinge on collaboration, transparency, and sustained engagement with regulators.

Committed to Shaping the Future of Betting in Brazil

Baungartner’s personal passion is evident. Professionally, the role represents a strategic leap, but personally, it offers him a chance to contribute meaningfully to an industry that’s becoming more regulated and structured in his home country.

“We’re building a robust, regulated operational model aligned with international standards,” he noted. “It’s a chance to make a real impact.”

Expect Baungartner to remain highly visible at industry events and conferences, where he continues to advocate for best practices, innovation, and regulation.
