Logame do Brasil Ltda and Sortenabet Gaming Brasil SA successfully appeal suspension by SPA, reinstating operator licenses after submitting required technical documentation.
In a recent turn of events, Logame do Brasil Ltda and Sortenabet Gaming Brasil SA have had their operator licences reinstated by the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA) after submitting required technical documentation. This follows the initial suspension of seven operator licences for failing to provide security assessment reports for their betting systems to the regulator.
Normative Ordinance No 722, implemented last year, mandates that operators must submit an evaluation report of their betting systems to the SPA within 90 days of receiving licensing approval from recognised certifying entities. EA Entretenimento e Esportes and Bet.Bet Soluções Tecnológicas SA promptly complied by filing their reports upon the initial suspension announcement.
In a notable case, Pixbet, a primary sponsor for the Flamengo football club, secured a preliminary injunction from a federal court to reinstate its licence swiftly, ensuring its presence in the sporting arena remains compliant with regulations.
However, Bell Ventures Digital Ltda and Betesporte Online Betting Ltda are the remaining operators still on the suspended list, as the SPA continues its regulatory oversight.
The recent licence suspensions have sparked debate, with Brazilian lawyer Fabio Ferreira Kujawski criticizing the SPA’s approach. Kujawski believes that while regulatory authority is crucial, a balanced and fair application of sanctions is necessary. He suggests that the SPA should consider the impact of its actions on established companies and sponsorship agreements within the market.
The industry eagerly awaits how the SPA will navigate these challenges and strike a harmonious balance between regulation and cooperation with operators in the Brazilian gaming market.
