In a remarkable surge, Ontario’s iGaming revenue soared to a staggering CAN$313.2 million in April, marking a substantial 25.3% year-on-year increase. This impressive growth was achieved despite a backdrop of reduced consumer spending. The lion’s share of the revenue, totaling $242.8 million, was attributed to casino games, reflecting a substantial 35.6% spike compared to the previous year. Sports betting remained steady with $64.5 million in revenue, while poker saw a modest increase to $5.9 million.
The online casino segment emerged as the powerhouse, commanding a dominant 78% market share of the total revenue in April. Sports betting followed at 21%, with poker bringing up the rear at 2%. Notably, total bets reached $7.8 billion during the month, showcasing a robust 26.4% year-on-year growth. While online casino bets surged by 29.4% to $6.58 billion, sports betting also saw a healthy 14.1% increase to $1.07 billion. Poker wagers remained steady at $144 million.
The data released by iGaming Ontario also shed light on key metrics such as active monthly player accounts, which rose by 20.3% year-on-year to reach 1.1 million in April. The average revenue per active player account experienced a commendable 4% uptick compared to the previous year, reaching $287. These figures not only underscore the sustained growth of Ontario’s iGaming market but also highlight the increasing engagement and spending habits of players in the region.
